Hecker, Nancy J., LPC

Nancy J. Hecker’s career and dedication as a Licensed Professional Counselor spans over 25 years. She earned her undergraduate degree at Rhode Island College and a Master’s Degree from Old Dominion University. Nancy also earned a Certificate in Women’s Studies from Old Dominion University.

Her past work experience includes teaching, prevention, advocacy, administration, marketing, employee assistance, therapy and directing a United Way Agency on alcoholism. She remains passionate in helping patients and families with substance abuse issues, caring for women’s health issues and providing treatment for anxiety, ADHD, bi-polar disorder, depression, family issues and marital problems.

Nancy’s approach to counseling focuses on the reality of one’s behavior and the natural consequences of such behavior. While it is helpful to know the history of one’s past, it is infinitely more important to ensure that the same path is not taken again. Asking, “What else can I do”, “What other options are open to me” and “What will naturally occur if I stay on the same path as previously traveled” are several of the questions that are presented by Nancy in order to recognize and conquer the root of the issue that exists. Nancy’s goal during therapy is to help people to function on their own and enjoy a more productive and constructive life.

In her leisure time, Nancy enjoys reading, cooking, dining out, hiking and bicycling. She is also passionate towards all animals.
